Job Duties:
The Library Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the library in various capacities. This position reports directly to the Archivist. Specifically, this position will support the Archivist in maintaining appropriate service levels in the Archive and museums and support the maintenance of the Archive's collection. This position on occasion may assist with the Public Services aspects of the library.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Customer Service:
  • Act as historic collection liaison for campus groups, community visitors, faculty, donors, and administration
  • Perform customer service activities for students including ready reference
  • Conduct referrals of research inquiries to University Archivist
  • Assist with community outreach and promotion of Athens State history, activities, and archives collections
  • Support coordination of activities for special events such as the TVOTF Convention, historical society meetings, professional conferences, etc.
    Archives Maintenance:
  • Perform metadata entry for integrated library system
  • Catalog archival materials
  • Processing and arranging of archival collections
  • Assist with archival collections maintenance
  • Accept and process donations on behalf of the University Archives
  • Support regular preservation and maintenance duties for archival collections
    Museums:
  • Assist in the maintenance, preservation, and improvement of campus Delmore Brothers, TVOTFC, and Sports Museums
  • Perform opening and closing duties for University Archives and Delmore Brothers, TVOTFC, and Sports Museums
    Volunteers:
  • Solicit and supervise volunteers and student workers
    Other Functions:
  • Remain abreast of current developments in field.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Actively works towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers and internal faculty and staff.
  • Maintains “open door” to internal and external customers.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engages in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Routinely practices self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.


    Required Qualifications:
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university in related field.
    • Experience in Microsoft Office required.
    • At least two years of experience working in an archive or related organization required; academic library experience preferred.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    • Effective oral and written skills.
    • Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekend hours.
    • Initiative to address and resolve library problems or issues.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff, and general public.
    • Basic knowledge of archival procedures in preservation and conservation.
    • Ability to work well under pressure, and be flexible in the face of change.
    • Working knowledge of a personal computer, specifically email, Internet, and online purchasing.
    • Computer and printer troubleshooting skills, and ability to learn new computer software.
    • Knowledge of library practices, procedures, standards, and organization.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and have the ability to move boxes overhead and to push carts up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequently climb (ladders, or other)
    • Must have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
