Teaching Faculty Position in Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position to teach a senior-level capstone course in building design and other related courses in the structural engineering curriculum. The capstone course primarily includes structural engineering components, but also contains some geotechnical elements. Capstone courses are intended to help students prepare for a professional career by applying engineering fundamentals and decision processes to develop practical design solutions, effective written and oral communication skills, and teamwork skills.

The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 34 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $18M, and U.S. News and World Report undergraduate program rankings of 13th for civil engineering and 16th for environmental engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, 12 NSF CAREER awards, and one NAE membership. Excellent opportunities exist for candidates to interact with faculty on collaborative projects, including teaching, research, and service. Penn State is one of the nation's leading research universities with expenditures exceeding $900 million annually. Please see http://www.cee.psu.edu/ for additional information about the department and https://policy.psu.edu/policies/ac21 for definition of academic ranks and promotional opportunities of non-tenure track faculty.

Applicants should have several years of structural design-related experience and hold a Master's or Doctoral degree in civil engineering at the start of the appointment. In addition, the preferred candidate should be licensed as a professional engineer (P.E.) and have demonstrated teaching experience through academic courses, professional conference presentations, or related activities.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching interests, one or more recent peer-reviewed publications, and contact information for three references. For full consideration, applications should be received no later than November 30, 2020. Review of applications will continue through January 2021. Apply to job XXXXX at http://www.psu.jobs.
