Assistant Professor of Video Production

The University of Wisconsin–Stout invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Video Production commencing fall of 2021. This position will support the Bachelor of Science in (B.S) Video Production as well as further interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty and students aligned with other programs across the University, such as the many BFA programs in the School of Art & Design. This is a tenure-track, 9-month academic year position. Primary expectations include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, creative research, and service to the University. Program faculty are excited to welcome a new member to the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Master’s degree in related field, and minimum three (3) years of professional experience in a field relevant
    to video production or a combination of teaching and industry experience equivalent to three (3) years
  • Expertise using industry standard video production tools/software and processes
  • Expertise using industry standard video post-production tools/software and processes
  • Evidence of potential for teaching excellence

Highly Desired

  • Terminal degree (M.F.A., Ph.D., etc.) in an area of expertise relevant to Video Production
  • Professional video production experience
  • Applied knowledge of professional video camera operation
  • Applied knowledge of still photographic tools and technologies
  • Interdisciplinary teaching / research experience
  • Interest in partnering with industry
  • Interest in leadership opportunities

Terminal degree (M.F.A., Ph.D., etc.) required for tenure and promotion, unless by special exception process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach studio courses each semester, that may include introductory, intermediate, and advanced Video Production classes, Motion Graphics and VFX software and processes.
  • Teach other studio Photography classes that support the major and the Photography and Video minor.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, collegiality and the potential for future leadership in the Video Production program
  • Collaborate with other faculty to maintain / develop course curricula
  • Foster a rigorous and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide academic advisement for students in the major and Photography and Video minor
  • Participate in program assessment
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and facilities 
  • Perform service to the department, college, and university
  • Engage in professional creative research
  • Pursue external funding
  • Perform other duties as designated by Chair

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The B.S. Video Production program is a collaboration between the Communication Technologies and Communication Studies Department with the School of Art and Design. This interdepartmental approach combines elements of creative storytelling with the digital technologies used in commercial videos, short documentaries, and narrative films. The B.S. in Video Production is a new and fast-growing program, will be entering its third year in Fall 2021 and is unique within the University of Wisconsin System. The program’s curriculum offers a comprehensive foundation in both visual communication and video production technologies that provide students the opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge acquired through coursework. The School of Art & Design has over 70 faculty/staff and over 1,100 students, making it the largest higher education art and design entity in the upper Midwest. The Video Production program collaborates with many of the six distinct BFA programs, including Entertainment Design, Game Design & Development—Art, Graphic Design & Interactive Media, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Studio Art, a BS in Art Education, and an MFA program in Design.
