North Dakota State University’s Department of Human Development and Family Science, in conjunction with the Sheila and Robert Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth, invites applications for a nine-month, tenured or tenure-track position, rank open, with a focus area in policy related to individual and family financial well-being, to begin in August 2021. Support associated with the position includes start-up funds, graduate assistantships, course buyouts, and summer research support. Review of applications will begin on November 30, 2020.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The tenure home for this position will be in Human Development and Family Science, and this position will be affiliated with the NDSU College of Business’ Challey Institute for Global Innovation & Growth.  The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, teaching, and outreach that contributes to the missions of the Institute and HDFS. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a strong program of research related to enhancing economic opportunity and promoting human flourishing through institutions and policies focused on families and children. Possible areas of focus include but are not limited to: consumer policy, family resource management, and starting and sustaining family businesses.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses primarily in personal and family finance and family policy (two courses per semester)
  • Advise undergraduates and mentor graduate students
  • Participate in professional service activities
  • Disseminate accessible research-based information and training throughout the state and region through partnerships with Extension and other entities
  • Work effectively with colleagues across disciplines and/or community organizations
  • Contribute to department governance and foster a collaborative community across the HDFS department and the Challey Institute 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate (by August 2021) in HDFS, family science, public policy, family resource management, economics, or a closely related discipline
  • Eligible to apply for examination to earn credentials as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC)
  • An active program of research in a relevant focus area as described above and interest in conducting research in line with the missions of the HDFS Department and the Challey Institute
  • Evidence of effective instruction
  • Evidence of potential to publish research and secure external funding
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusiveness
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one degree (at any post-secondary level) in HDFS, psychology, family and consumer science, consumer economics, or family resource management
  • An established record of high-quality research publications
  • An established record of external funding
  • Evidence of high-quality instruction, advising, and mentoring of students
