Assistant Professor of Music History or Ethnomusicology

The Glenn Korff School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music History or Ethnomusicology.

Duties and responsibilities:
TEACHING: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate western art music history survey courses, graduate music history seminars, general education music classes, and other academic music classes according to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the School. Serve on graduate supervisory committees and advise graduate theses in musicology/ethnomusicology. RESEARCH/CREATIVE SCHOLARSHIP: Contribute regularly to the national and international conversations in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. Foster an active research agenda through peer reviewed presentations and publications. SERVICE: Serve on faculty committees for the department, college, and university; provide service/leadership in appropriate professional organizations in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. OTHER: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the Glenn Korff School of Music. Conduct all duties in a collegial, ethical, and supportive fashion.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Musicology or Ethnomusicology completed by the first day of employment, i.e., Monday, August 16, 2021. An established and active research agenda. Collegiate teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching and Research expertise in one or more of the following: Music of the African Diaspora, Popular music (especially Rap/Hip Hop), Latinx music, Latin-American music, or Music of Indigenous Peoples. Interdisciplinary experience in Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Performance Studies, Gender Studies, or Sound and Visual Studies also desirable. Secondary research and teaching experience in the European concert tradition also desirable. Experience teaching bibliography and/or research methods courses desirable as is interest in or experience with online instruction. Experience in the mentoring and advising of first-generation students and a diverse student body.
