Assistant Professor, School of Epidemiology and Public Health

 

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health. This research-intensive School, comprised of over 150 core, adjunct, and cross-appointed interdisciplinary faculty members, is a vibrant environment with research and teaching foci in multiple health-related fields. The School confers a Master of Public Health degree, MSc and PhD degrees in Epidemiology and a Graduate Diploma in Population Health Risk Assessment and Management. It oversees the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency program and contributes to undergraduate medical education training.

 

The MPH program is comprised of four streams: public health practice, risk assessment, public health policy, and global health. Its first cohort joined the School in September 2020.

 

We seek applicants with an expertise in public health that aligns with at least one of the above articulated streams in the MPH program. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a comprehensive program of independent, externally funded research and contribute to teaching and graduate student supervision in the School.

 

Title of the position:

Assistant Professor.

The higher ranks will only be considered should the successful candidate possess the appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.

 

Duties:

The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions:

  1. Scholarly activities revealed by research;
  2. Teaching activities;
  3. Academic service activities;
  4. Supervision of graduate students.

 

Terms:

Tenure-track position.

 

Salary:

Assistant Professor salary scale commensurate starting at $86,986 Note: salary for higher ranks is commensurate according to rank and experience.

Relocation expenses:

Successful candidates may be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with University policy.

 

Skills requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant health-related research discipline with demonstrated specialization/concentration in public health practice, risk assessment, global health, public health policy, epidemiology, and/or the equivalent.
  • A commitment to research and teaching, a strong record of interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellent communication skills.
  • Postdoctoral or applied experience is an asset, but not essential.
