The Macalester College Department of German Studies invites applications for a non-tenure-track position, renewable for up to three years, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin fall semester of 2021. In addition to teaching all levels of German language and upper-level content courses in German, the successful candidate will be able to offer innovative courses in English that are cross-listed or closely allied with one or more other departments, with a strong preference for one of the following areas of study: environmental humanities; urban studies; history of science and/or medicine; surveillance studies; media and/or theater studies; music (including opera). A Ph.D. in German or a related field (in hand or expected), near-native proficiency in German, and evidence of scholarly potential and of effectiveness in undergraduate teaching are essential. The teaching load is five courses per year, contingent on enrollments. Salary and benefits are competitive.
