Position Summary:

Under the close supervision of the Director of International Faculty and Staff Services (IFSS), this position functions as a human resource professional responsible for recommending, preparing, and filing H-1B Temporary Worker petitions on behalf of all UW System campuses (Campuses) excluding UW-Milwaukee. The incumbent serves as a liaison between the Campuses and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL); U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS), and will respond to their requests for information. The incumbent will also prepare and file Permanent Residence applications (PR) as well as other types of non-immigrant petitions for the Campuses as permitted by law.

This position requires knowledge of the UW System's internal policies and procedures, as well as cross-cultural sensitivity. This position has contact with a number of campus customers and personnel from a variety of federal and state agencies.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A bachelor's degree in a field related to the responsilities of the position is preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required
- Knowledge of U.S. immigration laws, USCIS, DHS, DOL, and DOS regulations.
- Experience providing employment based immigration services. Includes preparing and filing H-1B and permanent residency petitions.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, and a wide variety of constituents including Federal government agency officials, campus and dean's office personnel, with campus clients, and with IFSS and OHR colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to consult with stakeholders regarding all immigration matters.
- Knowledge of cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work with very detailed information.
- Knowledge of the relationship between HR and immigration and how HR practices affect immigration.
- Familiarity with general HR knowledge such as recruitment, hiring, titles and salary information.
- Excellent organizational skills, must be able to prioritize mulitple deadlines under pressure and handle severe time constraints.
- Experience presenting information and conducting trainings to varying/diverse audiences (training does not have to be in HR or immigration).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Experience working in the field of higher education
