Position Summary:

The Department of Statistics is looking for a person who will engage researchers in the use of various state-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure (CI) systems, tools, and software to enable research productivity. This person will partner with researchers to co-create and co-learn relevant computing and data capabilities, and will inform and contribute to projects with technical teams to ensure delivery and improvement of research CI services. We teach statistical data science concepts and methods to much of the campus, and we are constantly developing new ways to create data-rich stories around research projects. We need a person who can communicate how to accomplish computing tasks to a wide variety of people.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, statistics, data science or another STEM field required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required:
-Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written, for both technical and non-technical audiences
-Two years experience with scripting and data/task management tools such as bash and python.

Preferred:
-Experience addressing issues with a variety of technical software and operating systems.
-Experience with statistical software languages, especially R and/or Python.
-Experience in an academic setting, ideally with customer service for research computing.
-Experience in Linux-based high performance computing and/or other distributed computing frameworks.
-Knowledge of job schedulers such as TORQUE, SLURM, HTCondor, or SGE.

Additional Information:

This position will be hired as either one 100% FTE appointment or two 50% FTE appointments.
