Position Summary:

Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science and social science research techniques, and presenting the results. May work independently or as part of a team.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors degree required. Experience with programming languages (SAS, SQL, Python) required. Experience with administrative data and programming for social science research preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required: At least one year experience writing programming code (SAS is preferred) to manipulate large, complex datasets, especially merging data from multiple sources, formats, and of varying structures.

Highly desirable: Experience in working with different sources of administrative data, especially any source related to the administration and record-keeping of State of Wisconsin administrative data. Knowledge of data science techniques. Experience working with highly confidential data. Experience working with error prone data. Working knowledge of the LINUX operating system. Experience working in a social science or social policy environment, as part of a team of programmers and researchers, and using social science research methods.

Advantageous: Some experience in using SAS macros and SQL. Working knowledge of data conversion between standard and highly customized file formats. Knowledge of data encryption. Experience with Stata. Experience developing techniques for making data more user friendly (e.g., via query systems) and providing training to data users.
