Job Summary/Basic Function
JOB SUMMARY
The principal role of the Research Assistance Librarian is to provide general research, reference and information services as well as specialized undergraduate research support, instruction, and collection development to the Liberty University online and residential community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The principal role of the Research Assistance Librarian is to provide general research, reference and information services to the Liberty University online and residential community.
2. Provides specialized undergraduate research support, instruction, and collection development.
3. Contributes to and supports the library’s ongoing initiatives to integrate public services, collections, and instruction in the dynamic environment of networked-based information delivery.
4. Collaborates with faculty and university departments to develop approaches to information literacy which address student retention and student success.
5. Participates in both formal and informal professional development opportunities such as conference attendance, professional research and writing, and/or completion of continuing education courses as approved by the University.
6. Provides professional research support on projects as assigned.
7. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
8. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
MLS degree from an ALA -accredited institution, or equivalent. Strong instruction and digital resource production experience required. Well-developed communications and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to adopt emerging practices and utilize technologies relevant to reference and instruction in both digital and conventional contexts.
Preferred Qualifications
Second master’s degree, preferred. Professional library experience, preferred.
Work Hours
M-F, some weekend and evening work required
