Job Summary/Basic Function
The Assistant Dean for Clinical Education is a member of the administrative leadership team at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine ( LUCOM ). The Assistant Dean works with students, faculty, Chairs, Assistant Deans and the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the full spectrum of clinical educational program development in medical education including Undergraduate Medical Education ( UME ) (focusing on years three and four of the medical school curriculum) and in the development, growth and management of GME programs.
The administrative leadership work of the Assistant Dean for Medical Education at LUCOM includes: leading and managing the design of clinical curriculum; implementing and delivering the clinical curriculum to continuously improve outcomes with faculty, Chairs and administrative leaders; developing and implementing best practices in community-based medical education; meeting medical school accreditation requirements across clinical sites; recruiting and professionally developing the clinical faculty in community-based settings.
The Assistant Dean will work effectively with colleagues and demonstrate versatility in these multiple roles as a collaborative leader to continuously improve clinical educational metrics for students and LUCOM, including scores on licensing examinations and outcomes in the NRMP Match. The Assistant Dean will also work to develop new Graduate Medical Education ( GME ) programs and grow established GME programs with the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Qualifications:
• Shall possess an earned D.O. or M.D. degree from an American Osteopathic Association ( AOA ) or Liaison Committee on Medical Education ( LCME ) accredited college of osteopathic or allopathic medicine.
• A valid medical license in active, current good standing and the ability to obtain a medical license in Virginia or other state as required by the COM and the Dean.
• Appropriate and current certification from either an American Osteopathic Association or American Board of Medical Specialist certification board.
• Minimum of 5 years of academic leadership experience in the context of a medical school environment as a Department Chair, Assistant or Associate Dean, GME Program Director or equivalent experience in UME or GME .
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education/Experience Qualifications:
• Track record demonstrating leadership and achievement and outcomes at an accredited medical school.
• Demonstration of sustained professional engagement with faculty and activities demonstrating leadership of Chairs and faculty at a medical school.
• Demonstrations of scholarly activity including publications, research activities, service to public or profession.
