Position Summary

Center for Hybrid Rocket Exascale Simulation Technology ( CHREST ) at University at Buffalo, State University of New York (UB- SUNY ) has an opening for a Senior Research Software Engineer ( RSE ). CHREST is a newly funded PSAAP III center by Department of Energy focusing on investigating turbulent reacting flow physics of hybrid rocket motors through exascale computing coupling with model reduction strategies on machine learning algorithm for design optimization and uncertainty quantification. The recruited architect is expected to play a pivotal role in creating a PETSc based computational framework for exascale computations of turbulent reacting flows and capable of collaborating with other researchers from academia and National Labs. The primary responsibilities of the RSE are to:

• Lead computational framework development and milestone calculations
• Serve as the Technical Contact for the PSAAP Computer Resource Team ( CRT ) and Processing Agent for new accounts on the DOE computers
• Organize annual reports for the center
• Have the ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The position is renewable on a year-to-year basis upon satisfactory annual review. Minimum Qualifications

Desired Quantifications:
● A PhD degree in engineering, computer science, software engineering, or closely related field
● US citizenship
● Experience using and implementing the Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific and Computation (PETSc)
● At least 5 years work experience in programming of engineering software and analysis
● A proven track record of software development for engineering applications
