Term Assistant Professor of Arabic
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA) invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor in Arabic, beginning August 2021. This position is renewable yearly depending on budgetary approval, satisfactory performance, and departmental needs. Responsibilities:
Teaching
responsibilities include 12 credits per semester in Arabic language
and literature. The ideal candidate will teach Modern Standard
Arabic at all levels, upper-level conversation, Arabic-English
Translation, Arabic literature (in Arabic and English) and modern
Arabic intellectual history. Some limited service will be
expected.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a field relevant to the study of the Arab world;
- Experience teaching Arabic at the undergraduate level is required as is native or near-native proficiency in both Arabic and English;
- We are interested in candidates whose research and linguistic expertise focuses on any region of the Arab world and any time period, including the classical.
Preferred Qualifications:
Cultural and
linguistic expertise across two or more regions of the Arabic
speaking world, ability and willingness to teach online, and
commitment to undergraduate education.
