The Mentorship and Equity in Transitions to Achieve Student Success (METAS) grant funds a suite of interventions centered around peer and faculty mentoring that will support Hispanic and other low income students in securing high-quality undergraduate degrees that both prepare them for a changing workforce and provide them with the access into professional or graduate degree programs.


The METAS Project Coordinator & Cooperative Learning Center (CLC) Coordinator, under the general direction of the METAS Project Director and Co-Director with daily oversight for CLC activities provided by the Director of CLC, the incumbent will be responsible for METAS project coordination and grant administration; mentoring programs expansion and coordination, and Cooperative Learning Center program planning, development, and coordination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Coordination and Grant Administration (35%)

1. Oversee day-to-day program activities, including meeting as needed with appropriate faculty and staff, and report regularly to the Executive Team.

2. Convene and serve on the Executive Team and the Project Advisory Board.

3. Review the METAS performance metrics, in conjunction with the Institutional Research and Assessment Office (IAR) as needed, and report recommendations for adjustment to the

Executive Team.

4. With the Executive Team, monitor expenses to stay within budget allocations.

5. With the Executive Team, coordinate monthly and annual progress reports based on grant performance metrics.

6. Prepare and regularly present to University administration progress and summary reports to monitor progress of project milestones and objectives to ensure they are completed on schedule. 7. Assist with record-keeping compliance, including effort reporting and participant consent forms in compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Mentoring Programs Expansion and Coordination (15%)

1. Coordinate and oversee implementation of a suite of peer and faculty mentoring programs and establish learning outcomes for the mentoring programs.

2. Conduct institutional surveys to assess current mentoring practices for undergraduate research and non-research faculty/student relationships.

3. Assess current mentoring practices for non-research faculty/student relationships.

Cooperative Learning Center Program Planning, Expansion, and Coordination (50%) 1. Expand Cooperative Learning Tutor/leader hiring, training, and evaluation

a. In close collaboration with the Cooperative Learning Center (CLC) Director of Tutoring Services and staff, recruit from qualified tutors and leaders, training and evaluating hired

students in compliance with the unit 11 CBA.

b. Collaborate with CLC staff in coordinating, developing and facilitating training.

c. Supervise academic student employees at the Cooperative Learning Center.

d. Ensure staffing is consistent with student demand, monitoring usage to adjust schedules as needed, ensuring optimal use of available hours.

2. Program planning and development

a. Expand CLC tutoring support, including evening and weekend support.

b. Create and sustain a night-focused website for programming and schedule


c. Apply expertise in specialty and understanding of institutional needs based on changes to curriculum, student population, and METAS grant goals to make recommendations to

the Director of Tutoring Services regarding upper-division tutoring, program

development, and training.

d. Work in close collaboration with tutoring and SI program staff to strategize appropriate upper-division support in respective programs.

e. Attend CLC/tutoring services staff meetings.

3. Interaction with faculty and other campus constituents

a. Promote CLC through outreach efforts.

b. Work closely with departments and centers to develop and provide writing tutoring

support needed across the curriculum.


1. Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within the department and the campus community.

2. Participants in workshops and conferences as needed.

3. Performs other duties as assigned.

○ Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures, and ability to perform standard business math, track financial data, and make projections.
○ Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and packages.
● Knowledge and understanding of Title V, E.O. 595, 665, 405, and CSUMB Admissions and Financial Aid policies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience

● Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and professional experience in areas related to university advising AND two years of professional experience in areas related to tutoring, advising, or other student support. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

● Possession of this knowledge and ability is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

● Experience managing academic and student support projects

● Supervisory experience.

Specialized Skills:
Demonstrated experience that clearly provides evidence of the knowledge and skills required to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements identified above are representative
of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
● Two years of professional experience supervising students and with academic tutoring.
● Evidence of project management, and implementing data-based program improvement.
● Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, and employee management databases.
● Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Founding Vision Statement and

Compensation and Benefits:
The University Corporation is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive program that rewards efforts that are appreciated by your colleagues, students, and the customers we serve. The salary range for this position is $5,200 - 6,200 per month, dependent upon experience. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA, 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits. University Corporation positions are at will employment.
