ABOUT THE CHEMISTRY & BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry includes major research efforts in the areas of environmental chemistry, biochemistry, structural biology, materials science, nano-technology, as well as traditional areas of research of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. We aim to inspire knowledge and support creativity in students, faculty, and staff, and to provide rigorous preparation of future local, national, and international leaders in interdisciplinary fields.  

The department has 23 faculty members, and offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Our core facilities house state-of-art instruments such as Bruker D8 Venture and D8 QUEST Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction, JEOL ECA600 600MHz NMR Spectrometer, Bruker Avance III 400MHz NMR Spectrometer, JEOL JEM-3200FS Field Emission Energy Filter Electron Microscope, JEOL JMS-T100LC Mass Spectrometer, and Bruker EMXplus EPR Spectrometer EPR/MS.

Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science at the University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenure track, assistant professor faculty position in the broad interdisciplinary areas of environmental chemistry to begin in Fall 2021. Areas of environmental chemistry of particular interest include, but not limited to environmental nanotechnology, environmental sustainability, environmental catalysis, environmental analysis, water and wastewater remediation in analytical chemistry, and related disciplines. Applicants must have a distinguished scientific record and a commitment to the education and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students. The Department is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Requirements:

• PhD in chemistry or biochemistry or related fields
• Distinguished record of research and teaching
• Postdoctoral Training
