21-07 Tenure-Track Sports Medicine Faculty/Athletic Trainer

West Chester University of Pennsylvania's Department of Sports Medicine in the College of Health Sciences invites applicants for the position of Tenure-Track Sports Medicine Faculty/Athletic Trainer.

Starting in the Fall of the 2021-22 academic year, this faculty position requires classroom instruction for courses offered within the Department of Sports Medicine, as well as clinical athletic training services for WCU intercollegiate athletics. The faculty member will teach athletic training courses and serve as an athletic trainer as assigned by the Department Chair. The position may require an individual to teach remotely. Travel may be required depending on sport assignment. The faculty member will also serve as preceptor for athletic training students in WCU’s CAATE-accredited Master of Science in Athletic Training Program. Participation on department and campus committees is also expected.  Scholarly work is required for tenure and promotion. This is a nine-month faculty position. The nature of this position will include working outside a normal daily work schedule including early mornings/evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

One of the first five NATA approved programs, WCU has offered athletic training education programming since 1970. The Sports Medicine Department, housed within the College of Health Sciences, consists of 10 full-time faculty members who serve both as instructors in the classroom and in the athletic training setting. Minimum Qualifications

  • BOC certification;
  • Pennsylvania athletic training license or eligible for PA license;
  • Master’s degree in athletic training or a related field;
  • Experience teaching in the area of sports medicine;
  • 5 years of clinical athletic training experience;
  • Experience in supervision of athletic training students;
  • Applicants must show capacity for scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Athletic training experience with collision sports.
  • Clinical athletic training experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience in supervision of athletic training students from an accredited AT program.
  • Terminal degree or current enrollment in a doctoral program in sports medicine, education, or a related field.  Terminal degree is expected for successful achievement of tenure and promotion.
  • Professional service at the state, district, or national level.
  • Teaching experience within a CAATE-accredited program.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
