The Department of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus invites applications for a Contractually Limited Term Appointment in the field of History of Islamic Art and Architecture. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will be for a three-year term, commencing on July 1, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2021.
The Department welcomes applications from historians of Islamic
Art and Architecture whose work focuses on any period and any
region of the Islamic world.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in the History of Art or a
closely related discipline by July 1, 2018 or shortly thereafter,
with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research.
The successful candidate will play an important role in
undergraduate teaching in the Department and will be expected to
teach a survey of Islamic art and architecture as well as
upper-level courses in her or his area of specialization. The
candidate will also be expected to conduct innovative research at
the highest international level. Evidence of excellence in teaching
will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong
letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted with the
application. Excellence in research is demonstrated by the quality
of the writing sample, publications in top-ranked and
field-relevant academic journals, presentations at major
conferences, awards and accolades, evidence of an innovative
research program, and strong endorsements by referees of high
standing.
