IT Project Manager I



Job Summary

The IT Project Manager I initiates, plans, executes, controls, and completes all aspects of assigned projects. Coordinates project team members by becoming familiar with system scope and project objectives, and the roles of team members.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

Coordinates and tracks the initiation, planning, and execution of information technology and other related projects in support of strategic objectives and ongoing operations.

Communicates project status, decisions, updates, revisions, and changes to all stakeholders.

Gathers and tracks tasks and deliverables to ensure timelines, milestones, and goals are met.

Manages meeting documentation, schedules, agendas, workflow and process analysis, and status reports.

Coordinates and performs testing, ensuring functionality and accuracy, and documents testing procedures and results.

Communicates potential problems to project managers and develops plans for alternative actions.

Develops new techniques and procedures to enhance university information technology strategic objectives and operations.

Reviews progress, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices.

Other Duties:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Two years of professional full-time experience in an information technology field.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience with project leadership using standard project management methodologies and project life cycle phases.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Experience working in a technical customer support role.

Experience using Visio and SharePoint software.

Experience using Project Management software, such as Workfront.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of standard project management methodologies, project life cycle phases, deliverables, and project management tools.

Knowledge and ability to understand network infrastructure and server administration.

Knowledge and ability to understand information security principles, methods and tools.

Knowledge of University policies, processes and procedures, and the ability to determine applicability to projects.

Knowledge and ability to understand relational databases and data analysis.

Knowledge and ability to understand SQL queries.

Knowledge of operating systems such as Windows, Unix, and Linux.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
