The Coordinator of Diversity Initiatives supports the development and implementation of proactive initiatives for the school’s equity, diversity and inclusion strategic plan.
The incumbent in this role will:
- Collaborate and set priorities with the Assistant Dean for
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and School of Dental Medicine’s
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee on formulating policies
and programs that promote an inclusive learning and working
environment for all members of the School of Dental
Medicine.
- Seek appropriate grant funding for equity, diversity and
inclusion initiatives including but not limited to diversity
training programs, professional development opportunities for
under-represented minority student, faculty and staff and pipeline
program to recruit minority students to the dental school. This
will support the school’s and the university’s goals for
diversifying the student body which is paramount for addressing
health disparities in our society.
- Conduct ongoing review of curriculum content and recommend new
content to support diversity and inclusion as it relates to oral
health.
- Monitor and document compliance with equity, diversity and
inclusion accreditation standards. Specifically, Standards 1-3,
2-17 and 2-26 in the dental education program must be met.
- Standard 1-3: There must be a stated commitment to a humanistic
culture and learning environment that is regularly
evaluated.
- Standard 2-17: Graduates must be competent in managing a
diverse patient population and have the interpersonal and
communications skills to function successfully in a multicultural
work environment.
- Standard 2-26: Dental education programs must make available opportunities and encourage students to engage in service learning experiences and/or community-based learning experiences.
- Standard 1-3: There must be a stated commitment to a humanistic
culture and learning environment that is regularly
evaluated.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor Degree in Human Resource, Sociology, Public
Administration, Social Justice, or related field.
- 3 years of experience working in diversity and inclusion or
related field in a complex organization.
- Excellent communication skills, including public
speaking.
- Community engagement skills and experience.
- Knowledge and experience of common computer software.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Sociology,
Public Admin, Social Justice, or related field.
- 5 years of experience working in diversity and inclusion or
related field preferred.
- Experience in new program development.
- Experience in grant funding applications.
- Experience working in an educational environment including
student interactions.
- Experience in compliance and accreditation monitoring.
