The College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Clinical Sciences.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Health Professions is seeking a proven leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Reporting to the Dean, the chair will provide strategic and administrative leadership to this department in its teaching, research, and clinical missions and help realize the College’s vision of improving the health of populations by developing and inspiring health scientists and leaders.

The College of Health Professions is one of six colleges of South Carolina’s only academic health center and is among the largest colleges by student numbers at MUSC. Established in 1966 and with over fifty years of history educating thousands of students from the state of South Carolina and beyond, the College of Health Professions is a national leader in education, intellectual discovery, and research. Located in beautiful Charleston, on the campus of the historic, and nationally recognized Medical University of South Carolina, our college advances student learning through a dedicated and stellar faculty by promoting diversity, and by constantly assessing our programs and activities to better serve our students, our community, and the world at large.

The Department of Clinical Sciences, is the home of three accredited professional practice programs within the College of Health Professions: Anesthesia for Nurses (Doctorate), Cardiovascular Perfusion (Masters), and Physician Assistant Studies (Masters).  The Department is also the home of the Division of Healthcare Studies that offers students opportunities to to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and to position themselves to apply to graduate programs or work immediately after attaining their degree. Our professional programs are highly ranked by US News and World Report with Anesthesia for Nurses program ranked 29th out of 112 programs, Physician Assistant program ranked 46th out of over 240 programs, and Cardiovascular Perfusion being the second largest program out of 14 programs in the country.  The Department is made of over 16 faculty members and over 290 students. The use of simulation is also pervasive in the Department of Clinical Sciences and we have some of the leaders in simulation within their professions. Through our outstanding students and faculty, we are starting to bring inter-professional education from the classroom into practice. The faculty and students engage in clinical practice within MUSC Health enterprise.

The College seeks candidates who possess strong academic leadership experience for the advancement of the Department. The Chair is expected to effectively manage administrative, budgetary, scholarly, and instructional duties. Excellent leadership skills, experience in mentorship, along with the ability to work collaboratively are essential. Candidates are expected to have extensive academic administrative experience, as well as a track record of scholarship, instruction, and/or research. This leader will be expected to divide their time between administrative leadership, teaching/clinical practice/research. Candidates should be a health professional and possess a Ph.D. or other earned terminal academic degree (doctoral degree required). Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
