Vice President for Institutional Advancement (Daytona Beach, FL)
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement is responsible for the creation and implementation of robust institutional advancement projects/programs and recruitment and retention of skilled team members with a view of achieving the overall goal of substantially enhancing the involvement of the stakeholders and fundraising methods.
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will build on the current fundraising momentum, help shape fundraising priorities, and bring new and forward-thinking ideas and processes to Bethune-Cookman University fundraising efforts. Reporting directly to the University President, this position will work with other Cabinet members, campus leaders, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and alumni to increase major support for the University and to broaden the University’s donor base.
Other responsibilities include overseeing the division’s annual budget, corporate and foundation partnerships, large donations, planned gifts, endowment, capital projects, alumni and other member partnership activities, stewardship and development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Plans and implements programs and strategies to assist the University in achieving its goals through fundraising, marketing, and other outreach efforts designed to elevate the University’s brand, profile, and vision.
- Implements a five-year strategic development plan for Institutional Advancement that contains measurable annual outcomes that are aligned with the University's Strategic Plan
- Sets the vision and strategic direction for programs that seek to involve alumni, friends, faculty, staff and stakeholders in advancing and supporting the fundraising priorities of the University.
- Strategizes with the President, executive leadership and Board of Trustees (upon request) to develop strategic and tactical business partnerships.
- Serves as a liaison between the University and its stakeholders including alumni, donors, potential donors and friends of the University, corporations and foundations, and city, county, and state officials
- Maintains a portfolio of $100,000+ prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Provides direction and support for the President’s fundraising activities, including strategic planning of travel, prospect cultivation and solicitation, briefings and follow up support
- Provides leadership to the University’s donor recognition strategy.
- Creates, directs, administers, and evaluates comprehensive capital and/or programmatic fundraising campaigns to advance the strategic direction of the University.
- Provides quarterly revenue updates to the President and Board of Trustees upon request.
- Establishes annual goals and objectives ensuring that the set goals and objectives are met.
- Ensures vibrant, relevant strategic marketing and communication plans which align with the overall University’s long-term and short-term strategic plans; and with overall strategy and initiatives.
- Manages and strengthens relationships with new donors, drawing from the wide array of friends, University alumni, parents, corporations, and others to secure transformational major gifts.
- All other duties as assigned
- A master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in Institutional Advancement and Fundraising (higher education administration);
- A minimum of seven (7) years direct supervisory experience as a Director or above in University Advancement/Fundraising is required;
- Experience with the implementation of comprehensive University fundraising plans with evidence of effectiveness in marketing, solicitation of donors and key performance indicators;
- Broad background in fundraising and use of best practices, including demonstrated success and a solid record of accomplishments in the solicitation of major gifts and planned gifts;
- Planning and implementing fundraising programs; campaign planning and management; annual giving; grants development; and individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.
- An earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university (preferred)
- Substantial experience with contemporary fundraising practices and astute observers of market trends in higher education;
- Must be analytical, data-informed and results-oriented;
- Demonstrated strong leadership, communication, marketing, planning and organizational skills;
- Skilled at developing staff, fostering teamwork and managing change;
- Ability to tackle challenges with elegance and wisdom;
- A proven ability to communicate across a wide range of audiences.
- Excellent communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills with negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, excellent management skills paired with success in building trust among constituent groups.
