Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in supporting physicians in the Faculty Group Practice program at BCM Medical Center (McNair) campus for our outpatient clinical practice. This position will support the Young Adult Diabetes Clinic, where their central focus on patients between the age of 17 to 26 that has diabetes.

Job Purpose

Competent level Medical Assistant who is proficient in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting. Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support in a clinical setting. Provides guidance to entry level Medical Assistants.

Job Duties
  • Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support in a Young Adult Diabetes clinic.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in EPIC.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician and CDE. Some equipment may require daily calibration.
  • Assist with procedures as needed.
  • Administer medication under direction of a supervising Physician.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conduct patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Respond to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and route to CDE or MD as needed.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience. Certification/Licenses/Registration
  • Required: Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
