We are searching for an experiencedAssistant Director Facilities.

Job Purpose:
Under the general direction of the director of facilities, the assistant director is responsible for the immediate oversight of districtwide Facilities Operations. This includes but is not limited to grounds maintenance, facilities support contracts, in-house skilled trades, customer support and district computerized maintenance management systems, student housing facilities maintenance, and district facilities safety programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all personnel assigned to the department. Oversee the hiring and training of staff by subordinate managers. Prepare or review all performance evaluations ensuring consistent use of applicable policies and procedures. Counsel, discipline, and recommend appropriate personnel action as required.
  • Develop and implement departmental procedures and guidelines related to facilities maintenance and facilities maintenance and support contracts.
  • Ensure facility services are ongoing and efficient. Develop an innovative service model with a focus on customer satisfaction and technology-infused operations.
  • Provide recommendations for purchase of materials, products and services.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, development, and evaluation of assigned personnel, and the day-to-day leadership of project managers and staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate with appropriate department heads and leadership within the college district. Provide timely and accurate written and oral reports as required.
  • Assist the director with multi-year operating budget and strategic planning, including the development and implementation of short- and long-term goals and objectives. Monitor recurring operating and annual capital budget allocations to manage expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Ensure the department maintains high customer service standards.
  • Maintain familiarity with codes and regulations applicable to facility maintenance and operations. including International Building Codes, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, EPA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, federal and state fire codes, and local ordinances.
  • Maintain current knowledge and awareness of industry best practices, rules and regulations related to the operations within facility and maintenance services.
  • Serve as a back-up for the director of facilities as needed in their absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a regional accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive experience managing facilities maintenance operations.

Extensive experience supervising skilled trades staff.

  • Knowledge and experience in planning, design and administration of educational facilities projects

  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to evaluate work performance and productivity; set appropriate priorities for timely completion of numerous concurrent tasks or projects within defined resource limitations and timelines
  • Ability to work independently and perform a wide range of complex tasks
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with administration, faculty, students and all parties doing business with the department
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and effective manner in both written and oral forms with campus employees, students, vendors, and the public
  • Ability to effectively develop and motivate work teams towards defined and agreed upon team and individual goals


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, plus climbing and balancing. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, chemicals and oils. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Little physical effort required.
