Title: Sonography Program Director

 Job Overview:

The Program Director, Sonography, is responsible for managing the Sonography Program in the Department of Health Sciences at The Christ College of Nursing & Health Sciences.  The Program Director reports to the Dean, Health Sciences, and is responsible for the management of an environment and resources conducive to the teaching/learning processes.  The Program Director participates in the preparation and management of the program’s budget, clinical sites, and provides leadership through the development and implementation of the program’s curriculum.  Assists in faculty development, recruitment, performance review, promotion and retention.  Maintains relationships with the program-specific regulatory and accreditation boards/agencies.  Assists the Dean, Health Sciences, in providing for an adequate number of qualified faculty.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 

Provides leadership and administration in the development, implementation and evaluation of the philosophy, outcomes, policies, and curricular components of the Sonography program:

  • Coordinates all content and student learning experiences within the curriculum.
  • Develops and maintains a master plan for all content and experiences in the curriculum.
  • Supervises appropriate revisions in all course materials and experiences based on curricular changes and refinements and course evaluations.
  • Monitors curricular effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, Health Sciences, regarding curricular direction of the Sonography program.
  • Collaborates with Dean, Health Sciences, and faculty in the development of student and academic policies for the college.
  • Utilizes objective data to assess the effectiveness of curriculum design.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation standards and requirements affecting Sonography education.
  • Assumes active role in accreditation activities.
  • Guides faculty in developing course materials.
  • Ensures regular meetings of the faculty course leads to facilitate communication and faculty participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum.

Teaches and Designs Courses in area(s) where qualified

Clinical Coordination:

  • Selects and approves appropriate clinical sites.
  • Provides orientation for the on-site supervisor.
  • Provides oversight of the clinical experience.
  • Ensures appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the clinical experience.

Performs other role-related responsibilities as required or directed:

  • Facilitates the selection of prospective candidates.
  • Provides input to Dean, Health Sciences during annual budget preparation and advocates for equity within and among other divisions of the college.
  • Actively participates in shared governance.
  • Actively engages in the implementation of a realistic mission-driven strategic plan for college growth.
  • Actively participates in official ceremonies.
  • Participates in activities that enhance the College’s effectiveness, such as community service, scholarly endeavors. etc.

Education:

  • Completion of an approved Baccalaureate Degree program. Bachelor’s Degree in sonography or related healthcare field in good standing in sonography.
  • A Master’s degree in a related healthcare field or in education is preferred                         

Years of Experience:  

  • Experience of at least three (3) years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in a healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by sonographers
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • Experience of at least one (1) year teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education.

                                                     

Required Skills & Knowledge:                 

Knowledge of  educational theory and techniques. Demonstrates ability to develop and implement curricular strategies and to incorporate effective management techniques.  Current knowledge of regulatory guidelines.  Effective communication skills.

Licenses, Registrations &/or Certifications: Credentialed in good standing in sonography, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
