Position Summary:

The position serves as the frontline person overseeing the proper function of a modern biological laboratory including whole building systems and specialised laboratory equipment / instrumentation in multiple separate laboratories headed by a faculty principal investigator. Duties range from repairs managed in-house to liason with UW physical plant skilled trades and external vendors. The position interacts with the full range of lab personnel to support desired outcomes.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors degree in an engineering, science or technical field with an emphasis in mechanical, electrical, electronic, or gas/liquid handling systems.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least two years experience in support of laboratory operations covering functional understanding of building infrastruture and modern biological lab equipment and instrumentation. Experience and ability to use machine shop tools and instruments (drill press, lathe, saws, presses, etc.) to repair equipment and build custom containers, holders and parts for prototype lab devices strongly preferred. Ability to troubleshoot electrical, electronic, vacuum, refrigeration, mechanical and plumbing components on lab equipment to assess repair strategy essential.
