Job Summary
The College of Sciences and Mathematics ( COSAM ) is seeking an Academic Advisor Level I or II. Under general supervision, the candidate will advise undergraduate students in the college as well as serve the COSAM Student Services office as part of a dynamic team of advisors.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to: face-to-face advice to students in all matters related to academic and/or curriculum matters; assisting with and coordinating registration procedures; advising for student group(s); conducting Camp War Eagle (new student orientation) and S.O.S. (transfer student orientation) sessions; evaluating and maintaining student records; and participating in undergraduate recruiting efforts. The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit progress in his/her own professional development.
Candidates must submit a cover letter, resume and the names and contact information for three professional references. Only complete applications will be considered.
Education Level
For both Level I and Level II a Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution.
Field of Study
Psychology, Counseling, Education, Communication, Business, the Sciences, Math, or related field.
Years of Experience
For a Level I zero years of relative experience is required.
Area of Experience
Experience should be in advising in higher education.
Requirements for Additional Job Levels
For a Level II, three years of relevant experience is required in advising in higher education.
Education Level
No substitutions for education are allowed.

Level II: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, a related and relevant graduate degree may substitute for two years' experience.

Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Higher Education, Business, the Sciences, Math or related field. Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in advising or counseling, and demonstrated commitment to and record of working with underrepresented students.
