Job Title: Maintenance II, Plumber

Job Summary

The plumber II is responsible for providing trade-specific, light and heavy-duty maintenance tasks in assigned areas throughout campus. This position also performs other general maintenance duties.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains buildings and facilities
  • Makes plumbing repairs and ensures proper completion of work orders
  • Troubleshoots and repairs on- and off-campus property, completing general repairs in the areas of carpentry, electrical, HVAC and other maintenance areas

  • Responds to the needs of students, colleagues and community members in a timely and courteous manner
  • Anticipates needs and responds accordingly
  • Offers individualized solutions with the objective of helping colleagues overcome obstacles and achieve their goals


Communication, Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Coordinates complex activities with co-workers
  • Communicates progress and needs to appropriate parties, maintaining radio communication at all times


Planning, Organizing and Accountability

  • Keeps maintenance areas clean and organized
  • Maintains tools, equipment, uniform and personal appearance
  • Participates in continuing education courses and/or code compliance seminars
  • Works cooperatively with maintenance III technicians to schedule preventative maintenance
  • Logs time and work performed through proper work order system


Initiative, Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Adheres strictly to safety standards and practices
  • Utilizes all available skills to determine, troubleshoot and repair issues that would otherwise be detrimental to university-owned property

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Diploma from a recognized trade school specializing in plumbing preferred
  • 5 years’ experience in maintenance- or construction-related field, including knowledge of common building practices, equipment and materials preferred

  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment and hand-powered tools
  • Demonstrated above-average knowledge of construction practices, electricity and plumbing
  • Above-average understanding of building systems
  • Ability to prioritize workload to ensure efficiency

  • University campus grounds, both indoors and outdoors
  • Exposure to all types of weather and extreme temperatures
  • Reliable vehicle for on-campus transportation

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
  • Ability to report to campus within one hour when on call
