The Macalester College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin fall semester of 2021. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Philosophy (in hand or expected) and show potential for excellence in research and undergraduate teaching.

Areas of Specialization: Philosophy of Mind or Philosophy of Language.

Areas of Competence: One or more of: Philosophy of Neuroscience; Philosophy of Cognitive Science; Philosophy of Biology.

The department is also interested in strengthening its curricular offerings in areas outside the traditional European philosophical canon, including in African, Asian, Islamic, or Latin American philosophical traditions, as well as in strengthening its connections with departments such as Psychology, Linguistics, Biology, Economics, and Environmental Studies. The standard teaching load is five courses per year, with usual non-teaching duties expected. The first year typically carries a one-course reduction in teaching. Salary and start-up funds, and other benefits, are competitive.
