Job Description
The Membership & Development Associate at KNAU manages the renewal and retention of members of KNAU, while also acquiring new members using a variety of methods (direct mail, on-air, outreach and online) and plays a major role in the planning and execution of the station’s fundraising drives.
Main Duties
Donor Relations: 35% of time
Work with the Director of Development to thank and assist
members on a regular basis
Serve as the first point of contact for donors via phone and email
regarding gift inquiries, personal information updates, and
information on ways to support KNAU;
Provide ongoing stewardship for Sustaining Members through emails,
notes cards, , thank-you gifts and other methods;
Follow up with Sustaining Members regarding credit card issues
using direct mail, email and phone correspondence on a weekly
basis;
Work with the NAU Foundation to ensure donors are properly
acknowledged and receive tax receipts;
Coordinate the selection, design and ordering of thank-you gifts,
and manage the thank-you gift fulfillment process;
Manage and coordinate Pledge Drive(s);
Maintain and grow an active on-line donor community;
Evaluate and implement new methods for donor relations.
Gift Processing: 30% of time
Process and batch all donations and Underwriting payments (web, credit card, check) using established NAU systems and protocols
Direct Mail Manager: 15% of time
Work with the Director of Development to acquire, renew and
retain members using direct mail methods
Create and manage successful quarterly mailing appeals for existing
members;
Augment direct mail appeals with email and social media strategies,
as well as acquisition mailings;
Work with the NAU Foundation to manage and request information in
donor/prospect database;
Analyze and segment data lists for lapsed and current members, and
assign ask strings;
Analyze and evaluate the success of direct mail strategies and
segmentation, and generate performance data as needed;
Coordinate with NAU Printing Services for timely execution of
quarterly mailings;
Develop new acquisition methods (on-air, online);
Maintain and grow sustaining member program;
Outreach: 10% of time
Work with Development Director to develop strategies for
representing KNAU in the community and recruiting new listeners and
members through community outreach.
Provide station information to potential and existing
listeners;
Partner with other community organizations;
Collaborate with KNAU staff to ensure website content and layout is
engaging and up to date; design website graphics and content as
needed.
Maintain and grow an active online community;
Design and distribute a weekly e-newsletter, and analyze open-rate
and click-through trends;
Design print ads and other graphics to appear in newspapers,
program brochures, and marketing materials as needed;
Assist with special events as needed.
Office Administration: 5% of the time
Coordinate calls and emails to various departments
Maintain and order office supplies
Mail donor gift acknowledgement letters and thank you gifts
Design and order nametags and business cards
Order stationary supplies
Other duties as assigned: 5% of time
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and two years’ experience in
membership, development or sales;
Three years’ experience in fund raising and computerized membership
systems;
Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or
education
Preferred Qualifications
Ellucian Advance Database Management
Email marketing software (iModules)
Nonprofit experience, particularly in a membership
organization
Familiarity with public radio
