Medical Assistant II



Job Purpose

Competent level medical assistant who is proficient in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting at the McNair Campus, department of medicine, Rheumatology clinic practice. Assists physicians with treatment room examination and procedures, schedules tests and appointments, answers patient calls, records and communicates information to referring physicians.

Job Duties
  • Assists with our rheumatology patients by providing them available options to be seen by one of our providers either in-person or telehealth visit.
  • Schedules appointments, patient tests, and examinations with hospital and other doctor's offices.
  • Assists with doctors orders that require prior authorization, for procedures, or treatment plans for the patients.
  • Assists in follow up of orders to patients who require medications at the time of visits by direction of the physician, such as flu shots.
  • Assists with our rheumatology medication samples and ensures proper stock of supplies in the waiting rooms.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record. Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration Required: Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
