To provide instruction in a range of engineering courses in support of engineering transfer programs. To participate in the design and delivery of courses for the transfer engineering program. Regular teaching assignments may include courses on and off campus and/or online delivered synchronously or asynchronously.

• This is a part-time (< .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty compensation begins at Step 1 / $616 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Initial assignment will be at the Bend Campus. May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
• The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide instruction in Engineering and assist with providing other coursework for engineering programs. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening classes, delivered in-person (as conditions allow) or online, synchronously or asynchronously.
2. Lecture and guide in-classroom activities, online/web-based activities, provide individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress.
3. Provide one hour of office time per week per course to guide and evaluate student progress.
4. Utilize resources, including technological resources such as Blackboard Learning Management System, to provide current course content and to record grades.
5. Conduct class presentations and activities; incorporate new methodologies in teaching and technology into classes. Includes shared responsibility for curriculum development and participation in evaluation for courses and the program.
6. Act as a resource person for students.
7. Perform other essential duties and tasks relevant to part-time instructor teaching assignments, as assigned.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

1. Demonstrable evidence of excellence in teaching typical Engineering coursework found at a community college. This includes demonstrable evidence of the on-going pursuit of activities intended to improve teaching skills.
2. Thorough knowledge of the field of Engineering in the broadest possible sense.
3. Ability to use a variety of teaching techniques and instructional methods as are appropriate to provide meaningful learning opportunities for all students.
4. Ability to design, develop, and maintain instructional programs and curricula in the field of Engineering.
5. Ability to observe, direct, and supervise students in laboratory and field settings and experiences.
6. Ability to use desktop computers effectively to produce and manage documents and data.
7. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
8. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
9. Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or the professional literature.
10. Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff and administrative persons at all levels.
11. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations as required.
12. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work is performed in classroom and office environments with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to use computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary conversations. Computer screen is used frequently. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Travel throughout the College district as needed. A flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the position responsibilities. The employee is required to meet physical and ergonomic requirements of the program area as this may vary from positions. Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
1. Master’s degree in Engineering or closely related field.
2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
3. Coursework/teaching experience in teaching lower division engineering coursework.

Special Qualifications:

Preferred:
Coursework/teaching experience in lower division engineering at a community college.
