General Description of Position
Under the general supervision of the division Dean and Program Chair, the Adjunct Instructor, Developmental English is responsible for instructing students in foundational integrated reading and writing. Teaching assignments for this position may include Beginning College Reading & Writing, Intermediate College Reading and Writing, Reading Workshop, and Writing Workshop. The instructor works with other faculty on developing course objectives, implements teaching strategies, advises students, monitors and evaluates student progress, and keeps accurate student records.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree with at least 18 hours of graduate credit English Education, English, Composition/Rhetoric, English as a Second/Foreign Language, or Adult Education field.
2. Teaching experience equivalent to 18 semester hours or 6 courses/sections at secondary or post-secondary level that applies directly to area(s) of instructional responsibility (developmental reading/writing).
Desired Qualifications
1. Work experience teaching developmental reading and writing at the two-year college level.
2. Work experience working with diverse populations of students at various levels of language ability/skill/learning style in both academic and career/technical degree programs.
3. Education or training in developmental education theory and methodologies.
4. Experience teaching integrated reading & writing.
