Mission or Goal of Unit

The mission of the Department of Radiation Sciences is to enable a diverse student body to develop its fullest potential; to graduate baccalaureate level radiologic health professionals who demonstrate outstanding technical, communication, and critical thinking skills. Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

This position is a 12-month, term faculty position with a faculty rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, contingent upon qualifications, in the Department of Radiation Sciences’ radiography program. The faculty member will utilize experience in clinical radiation sciences and educational methodologies to provide clinical and didactic teaching to a diverse student body. Faculty is expected to conduct service in support of the Department, College and University.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching:
Faculty member will have significant teaching and clinical responsibilities in the Radiography program as well as core radiation sciences courses. In pursuit of teaching excellence faculty will utilize appropriate teaching strategies in radiography and core curriculum, develop course objectives/content in collaboration with department chair and in accordance with program goals, actively participate in course and curricular evaluation and development.

Service:
Faculty will advise students and maintain student records, effectively communicate within and outside the department to achieve programmatic goals. Faculty will serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Furthermore, faculty will engage in service to various professional organizations and societies.

Clinical work:
Faculty will work closely with program clinical instructors to assure student clinical requirements are fulfilled, coordinate clinical courses including evaluation and assurance of clinical education effectiveness, routinely visit clinical sites and meet with clinical instructors, develop and distribute clinical schedules, clinical assignments and clinical policies and procedures to achieve accreditation regulations and guidelines, develop and maintain necessary working relationships within and between affiliate Health Systems and Department.

Scholarship:
Faculty will be mentored by Department faculty in research and scholarship projects.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.):
Faculty will coordinate clinical instructor workshops/in-services as needed, participate in radiography program advisory committee meetings, administer the radiography program under the direction of the program director and chair.

Required Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree (candidates without a graduate degree will be required to obtain a degree within 5 years of hire)

• ARRT certification in Radiography

• 5 years clinical experience in Radiography and licensed (or eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Radiologic Technologist

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

• 2 years’ experience as a collegiate educator in a JRCERT -accredited radiologic sciences program

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher

• 5 years’ experience as collegiate educator in radiologic sciences

• Multiple ARRT certifications and experience, preferably in computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance

• History of professional service and scholarship
