The Department of Psychological Science at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Applied Behavior Analysis. The position will start in August, 2021. This is a campus-based position.

This position consists of teaching 12 credit hours per semester, which include practicum courses for supervision of students training to become Board Certified assistant Behavior Analysts or Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Courses to be taught will include applied behavior analysis courses that are part of an approved BACB verified course sequence. Courses may also include those offered for the general psychology curriculum. In addition, the position will include coordination of a verified course sequence and 5-10% local or regional travel for practicum supervision. The faculty member will be required to advise students, engage in scholarly work, and participate in departmental and university service activities.

The Department of Psychological Science includes facilities for human and animal research, and has extensive equipment for behavioral and neuroscience studies. The department houses the Behavior Education Assessment and Research (BEAR) Center. The BEAR Center provides Applied Behavior Analysis services for those with Autism and other disorders and serves as a training ground for behavior analysis students. NMU provides research startup funds in addition to opportunities to reduce teaching loads for scholarly or other projects. Minimum qualifications:

Required education

Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Discipline/degree area

Behavior Analysis, Psychology or closely related field.

Required specialized training/certifications

Certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

Required minimum work experience

-Demonstrated evidence of quality teaching
-Demonstrated evidence of scholarly work (e.g., journal publications)
-Experience supervising practicum experiences

Knowledge, skills, abilities or attributes required for satisfactory performance of the position duties

-Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design including online instruction, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and assessment of outcomes
-Ability to convey oral and written information in understandable ways and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
-Ability to supervise trainees in an applied behavior analysis setting
-Ability to maintain certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
-Ability to earn and maintain a license to practice as an Applied Behavior Analyst in the State of Michigan
-Ability to conduct professional research
-Ability to provide behavior analytic services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities
-Academic program coordination
-Working effectively with others
-Time management skills

-Previous mentorship of students in an applied behavior analysis setting
-Previous experience conducting research, including involvement of student research assistants
-Ability to mentor and guide student thesis projects.
