Primary Responsibilities
All tenure track faculty members teach the equivalent of 12 hours per semester and maintain an active scholarly work in their field. This position would include both undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Exceptional Child Education program.


Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D./Ed.D. or ABD (with degree completion by August 2021) in Exceptional Child Education / Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction: Exceptional Child/Special Education OR Educational Leadership / Administration with a Masters Degree in Exceptional Child / Special Education. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited / government certified university)
  • Current or previous teaching certification in mild / moderate cross categorical, early childhood special education, or multiple category areas
  • Minimum of five years full time, special education teaching and/or special education administration if doctorate is in Special Education OR eight years full time, special education teaching and / or special education administration if doctorate is in Educational Leadership / Administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in special education
  • Knowledge of national (CEC) teacher preparation standards and current trends in educator preparation
  • Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college/university level
  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly work, i.e. research and/or publications
  • Experience or knowledge of using technology in instruction, including online teaching
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities

Departmental Information: The College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University has an award winning educator preparation program that is CAEP accredited and approved by the MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Additionally, graduate programs and course work are offered in elementary, early childhood, and exceptional child education, including a Master of Arts in Exceptional Child Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Exceptional Child Education. The educator preparation programs are experiential, field-based, with faculty actively engaged in area PreK – 12 schools.
