The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston is seeking a community health promotion specialist with demonstrable academic skills for an Assistant/Associate Professor position. The position is a 9-month appointment with summer school teaching optional. Effective date of appointment will be August, 2021.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain a vigorous scholarly research program that will foster acquisition of external funding, generate high-quality research publications and enhance graduate student recruitment and training. Additional responsibilities include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in nutrition, kinesiology, or community health promotion, and perform service to the department, college, university and the profession.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate potential to engage in cooperative research projects with other social-behavioral scientists, and with medical, community and governmental agencies located in Houston and nationally. Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the nation, and provides access to low-income and underserved populations, which is the focus of current and ongoing research in the department. Therefore, preference will be given to those individuals who have expertise in community-engaged research in underserved urban areas and prevention/intervention science.

Qualifications :

A Ph.D. or related doctorate with a focus in nutrition, physical activity, behavioral science, prevention science, or any related community health promotion field is required. Applicants are sought who can both complement and expand existing research capabilities within the department’s expertise, as well as applicants who can collaborate with individuals across the University’s departments, colleges, and centers.

Applicants are required to (i) have an active externally funded research program related to community health promotion that strengthens/broadens our current research areas, (ii) show a consistent record of disseminating scholarly work through publications in high-impact journals and presentations at major scientific meetings, and (iii) display a commitment to university-level teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate level.
