Oglethorpe University, a nationally ranked private liberal arts and sciences college, seeks an enthusiastic, dynamic, and strategic individual to serve as its inaugural Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Vice President will join the institution at a transformative time as Oglethorpe strengthens its commitment to excellence by making diversity, equity, and inclusion a top institutional priority. Under the leadership of Oglethorpe’s newly appointed 17th president, Dr. Nicholas Ladany, the successful candidate will be an unwavering diversity advocate and trusted partner who values a liberal arts and sciences education and has demonstrated experience as a skilled administrator, advisor, and strategic leader. The Vice President will lead and inform the strategic discussion advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the University and, working closely with the President and other key campus leaders, will build, guide, and assess policies and practices that encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion as a means of improving the University’s cultural climate and identity.

The university currently enrolls a diverse population of 1,385 students who represent 37 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Oglethorpe graduates are among those with the lowest average student loan debt in the nation, in part due to the nearly $27 million that the university awards annually in aid. Oglethorpe has an annual operating budget of $28 million.

Among its many accolades, Oglethorpe is the only school in Georgia, public or private, to be named among the nation’s top 20 “best buy” schools in the latest Fiske Guide to Colleges. In addition, Forbes ranks Oglethorpe 33rd among America’s most entrepreneurial colleges, and US News and World Report recognizes it as the 14th most diverse student body among liberal arts colleges nationwide and as one of America’s best national liberal arts colleges.

The appointment of the inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion comes at a moment of unique opportunity, with the support of a new president, the University’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force, and staff, faculty, and students eager to have this new function on campus. Additionally, these unprecedented times consumed by a global pandemic and movement for racial justice and equity allow for innovative change in new areas. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President will educate campus stakeholders and champion transparency and accountability of diversity initiatives as a shared priority at the highest levels of leadership and governance by developing significant collaborative partnerships with senior administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, and community members to strengthen the fabric of diverse cultural and equity throughout Oglethorpe.
