Job-Specific Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of Social Science and working with the Dean for Faculty Affairs and Planning, the Assistant Dean for Social Science is responsible for overseeing faculty-related procedures in the Division of Social Science , including those related to faculty searches, faculty reviews and promotions, non-ladder and visiting faculty appointments, research appointments, and faculty leaves of absence. The Assistant Dean advises department chairs and administrators about appointment procedures, policies related to faculty, practices aimed at enhancing inclusion and belonging, and a wide range of faculty-related topics. In conjunction with the Dean for Faculty Affairs and Planning and colleagues in other divisions/SEAS, the Assistant Dean also helps maintain consistent application of faculty-related policies and procedures across the FAS. The Assistant Dean is responsible for preparing and executing the Division's annual multi-million-dollar budget for non-ladder and visiting faculty appointments. Other responsibilities include drafting correspondence and reports, completing special projects for the Dean of Social Science, participating in academic planning for the Division, and advances divisional priorities.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant work experience
- BA degree

- Master's degree preferred
- Experience designing, interpreting, and applying policies and processes
- A collaborative working style, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to build strong relationships and influence decisions with people at all levels of the organization are essential
- Must have excellent project management, problem identification, and problem-solving skills
- Must be highly organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work setting
- Understanding of the workings of academic departments
- Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical abilities, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated good judgment, tact, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-functioning team
