Assistant Professor of Social Work

The Department of History and Social Sciences at Marian University-Indianapolis invites applications for a full-time tenure track social work position beginning August 2021.  The new Bachelor of Social Work program is currently in candidacy status with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability, or strong potential for success, in teaching across the social work curriculum in the context of generalist social work practice. The faculty member will be expected to contribute to the departmental culture committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. The Faculty member promotes Marian University’s Catholic mission and identity by advising social work majors, engaging in scholarship and professional development activities, and providing service in support of the program, department, and college.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the areas of Sociology, Health, Public Health, or Criminology/Criminal Justice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrated ability or strong potential for success in teaching across the social work curriculum, including in the areas of research methods or content specialty practices.
• Teach 24 credits per year using curriculum design in alignment with CSWE EPAS 2015 and a student-centered, engaged learning pedagogy.
• Mentor students from diverse backgrounds, including first generation college students.
• Advise social work majors and contribute in other ways to the social work program and the work of the department including the accreditation/reaffirmation and field education processes.
• Conduct and publish research to enhance the general body of knowledge in social work.
• Present research findings and other academic papers at national or professional conferences.
• Work in partnership with the Office of Institutional Advancement to pursue grant funding opportunities as appropriate.
• Support and participate in college committees and/or professional organizations to develop professional partnerships and meet the strategic goals of the institution.
• Support all college initiatives to recruit and retain talented students.
• Serve as an active member of the department and the Marian University community.
• Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• A commitment to the mission and values of Marian University
• A strong commitment to high-impact learning experiences
• DSW/PhD (or doctorate in related field) and an MSW degree from CSWE accredited institutions, at least two years of post-master’s social work practice, and some teaching experience in an accredited social work program.
• Evidence of strong teaching skills in higher education in the field of social work practice and whose research interests support and encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion in social work practice and/or education.
• Excellent communication, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, and to work collaboratively with colleagues across academic disciplines.
• Experience with online teaching preferred.
