Academic Advisor - Transfer Specialist
The Academic Advisor/Transfer Specialist works in direct relationship with the students, advising them in their course selection, making educational plans, and assisting them in potential career and transfer possibilities while in the community college setting. The Academic Advisor/Transfer Specialist serves as the main point of contact on campus for transfer related information.
Education and experience - Master's degree required, preferably in Counseling or Social Work. Candidates that have master's degree and work experience in social work or counseling will be given preference. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with students in a higher education setting; knowledge and experience working with a student database is essential (i.e. Datatel/WebNow). Coursework in counseling and/or career development preferred; background working with faculty and students in a higher educational setting is highly desirable. The individual must be proficient with technology and transfer related computer resources.
Skills and abilities - interpersonal skills to guide students in their academic decision-making; excellent organizational and planning skills in dealing with the career and transfer student population; advising and communication skills to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, coaches, and community leaders; good computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Internet, and Email.
