Job Description

This tenure-track faculty position may be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank
Major Responsibilities include: Provide diagnostic Veterinary Anatomic Pathology Service to include both biopsy and necropsy service; Provide anatomical pathology instruction for DVM students. Train Anatomic Pathology residents that include teaching advanced courses, and participate in workshop for anatomic path residents. Actively participate in weekly slide seminar and journal clubs. Serve as PI for extramurally funded research program and participate in collaborative research. Collaborate with other faculty on advanced test development and clinical research including clinical trials. Adhere to the responsibilities of the faculty as described by the Faculty Handbook (www.provost.vt.edu/fhb.html)
A research and publication track record in a research focus area of the college, ideally within the
areas of: a) Infectious Diseases, b) Inflammatory/regulatory disorders (including cancer) or c) Translational/regenerative medicine. There will be opportunities to develop independent and collaborative research programs within and outside the Veterinary Medicine College including at various life sciences-oriented Institutes. Please see web links below. The other responsibility will be to rotate anatomical pathology service with five other ACVP boarded anatomical pathologists (approx. 12-15 weeks). Clinical service includes review of both biopsy, histopath, and necropsy service. Development of advanced diagnostics is especially encouraged.

Required Qualifications

D.V.M. or equivalent by appointment start date
Diplomate of A.C.V.P. by appointment start date
Excellence in research scholarship and/or leadership in extramurally funded research (tenure-track only).
Excellent communication skills. For international applicants TOEFL scores will be required

Preferred Qualifications

1) Significant post-residency experience in diagnostic pathology, excellent teaching skills, and experience in test development.
2) Knowledge of current biomedical techniques.
3) Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a collaborative team member. 4) PhD in Biomedical Sciences areas
