Position Summary

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is seeking candidates for a clinical (non-tenure track) faculty position in small animal community practice at the rank of assistant or associate professor.
The service is fast-paced and is located in a stand-alone facility on the Classic Campus of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The main responsibility of the position is to teach and provide service within the Community Practice Clinic. Participation in didactic instruction, service to the department and college, and scholarly activity is expected.
The successful candidate will join two full-time clinical track assistant professors, a community practice specialty intern, and five technicians. The community practice service maintains a diverse caseload. Patients are seen primarily for wellness, illness, minor surgery, dentistry, and senior screening. The successful candidate will have many opportunities for teaching students (preclinical and clinical) and interns. The Community Practice Clinic has in-house laboratory capabilities, a well-equipped surgical suite, on-site radiology, and its own pharmacy. The service has access to specialists in the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital, located 2.5 miles from the Community Practice Clinic.
Faculty assignment will be based on the interests of the candidate in conjunction with the missions of the community practice program. The successful candidate will actively participate in collaborative research efforts along with developing research interests pertinent to community practice. The community practice clinicians share responsibilities in clinical service, didactic teaching, and clinical teaching of professional students and interns.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and experience in dentistry, basic surgery, and communication skills. Board certification is required for promotion to or appointment at the rank of associate professor. Salary and entry rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications.
Clinical Assistant Professor Qualifications:
Candidates should be board certified with small animal emphasis by a recognized veterinary specialty organization or be willing to complete board certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in canine and feline practice. Candidates should show evidence of a high level of competence and demonstrate the promise of moving toward excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Associate Professor Qualifications:
Board certification and a minimum of five years at the rank of clinical assistant professor, or comparable experience. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a regional authority. Demonstrated excellence in clinical competency and documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in canine and feline practice is desired.
