The College of Education and P-16 Integration is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Educational Research Methods with an active research agenda in the Department of Teaching and Learning. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.
UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.

The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers master's programs in Bilingual Education, Reading and Literacy, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, School Psychology, and Counseling. We also offer Ed.D.s in Curriculum and Instruction and in Educational Leadership. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is pursuing national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Instruction - Educational Research Methods include but are not limited to the following: teaching educational research methods courses, such as research methods and design, quantitative research, qualitative research, and research methods in education, as well as additional courses in other programs as needed. Responsibilities also include participating in on-going graduate program development; providing service to the department, the college, the university and the profession; developing and sustaining a line of research that contributes broadly to educational studies; pursuing internal and external funding for research and program development; chair and serve on thesis and dissertation committees; and mentoring graduate student research and advising master's and doctoral students. Applicants must show evidence of and/or potential for excellent teaching, research, service, and external grant procurement.
Candidates for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications.
•Earned a doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Educational Research, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Psychology, Educational Studies, Statistics, Quantitative Research, Research Methods, or other closely related field. ABD can be considered, if degree will be conferred by September 1, 2021.
•Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching, community engagement, and scholarly research and publication in the area of educational studies and/or educational research.
•Demonstrated potential to secure, or have a record of securing external funding.
•Demonstrated potential for working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Earned at least 18 graduate credits in educational research or research methods, such as statistics, research methods, research design, and/or research practicum
Candidates with the following qualifications will have preferred status.
•Active research agenda.
•Experience teaching research methods, statistics, and/or educational research.
•Publication record specializing in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research.
•Publications in peer-reviewed, nationally or internationally circulated journals.
•Experience in graduate program development.
•Experience in graduate teaching.
•Experience in advising or working with graduate students.
•Knowledge and application of online teaching and learning.
•Experience with Dissertations or Theses in Practice or Action Research

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
