Managing Marketing Director, Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts; University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The successful candidate will be a skilled non-profit manager with exceptional marketing and audience development skills to support the Executive Director in managing the Nebraska Repertory Theatre’s and Carson School’s internal operations. He/she will play a critical role in the strategic and organizational aspects of the theatre. Responsibilities include promotion, publicity, community relations, website content oversight, management of the administrative offices, and development of the School and its activities including marketing and supporting fundraising for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre and the Carson School. In close collaboration with the Executive Director, establishes and maintains policies and procedures for advertising, community relations, and grant writing/fundraising. Maintains policies and procedures for front of house operations, ticket office supervision, securing fair use of copyrighted materials, and coordinating events management related to patron and audience development.

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film (Carson School) is the premier training program of theatre and film artists in the region thanks to the philanthropic support from the late Johnny Carson, whose endowment to the School provides substantial support for technology, programs, and scholarships. In 2015, the Johnny Carson Foundation announced an additional $20 million donation as part of an overall $57 million investment by the University to create the new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. This exciting new program within the Carson School fuses performative experiences across film, live performance, gaming, interactive media, broadcast and internet media, and augmented and virtual reality. Founded in 1968 and relaunched in 2017, the Nebraska Repertory Theatre is Nebraska’s only Equity Theatre. The Nebraska Rep is housed in the Johnny Carson School, and works in close collaboration with resident faculty and staff, and the Carson School’s production infrastructure. Students work closely with these artists/professionals with opportunities that range from cast members to designers, dramaturgs, assistant directors, and stage managers. Previous guests include Ron Himes, Founder and Producing Director of the Saint Louis Black Repertory Company and Steve Scott, Producer, the Goodman Theatre.

The Johnny Carson School is a NAST accredited institution and member of U/RTA offering the BA, BFA, and MFA in Theatre Arts with substantial endowments for technology/programmatic support/upgrades and vision for the future. The Carson School is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts that, through its endowment, further supports the theatre faculty and students by funding a professional film series, scholarships, student and faculty travel, and productions for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Theatre or related field plus 3 years of related experience and knowledge in the areas of marketing, front of house operations, ticket office management, website management and database management and analysis required; equivalent education/experience considered. Must have supervisory experience. Must have superior attention to detail. Must be a strategic thinker. Demonstrated leadership ability in planning and executing marketing and communication strategies for a variety of communication platforms including publications, websites, social media, and email campaigns necessary. Must have strong organizational skills and consistently meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships essential. Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal communications skills required. Must be flexible, adaptable and have demonstrated ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects.

Preferred qualifications: Master's degree preferred. Proficiency in a variety of software tools, including Adobe Creative Suite and web content management systems desirable. Familiarity with UNL brand standard helpful. Experience working with Actor’s Equity Association contracts and/or in a university setting preferred.
