ResponsibilitiesThe Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this mission, the Tift College is seeking an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education with experience and credentials in P-5 mathematics teaching to teach, engage in scholarship, and provide professional and university service in support of the College's Teacher Education programs. Reporting to the Chair of the Atlanta Teacher Education and Educational Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed on the University's Atlanta Campus. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person and online courses in the College's P-12 Teacher Education programs, advising students enrolled in elementary education programs, and providing service at the program and unit level. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research, participate in activities of programmatic development and professional development linked to instructional quality and student success, and provide service to professional and University communities. Additionally, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the teacher education programs and the College.
QualificationsRequired:
- Earned doctorate in Mathematics Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Evidence of at least 3 years of successful P-5 mathematics teaching experience
- Experiences with diverse school populations and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy
- Strong potential for scholarly productivity and a defined research agenda
- Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity
Preferred:
- Evidence of successful university-level teaching
- Evidence of an additional area of experience or expertise (i.e., ESOL, literacy, or science education)
- Experience participating in assessment efforts and continuous improvement at the program and unit levels in either P-5 or university settings
- Strong evidence of scholarly productivity in elementary mathematics education or a related area
- Potential to obtain federal, state and/or private grants and contracts and manage funded projects
- Facility in the use of technology to develop and deliver online synchronous and asynchronous instruction
The successful candidate must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.
