Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is conducting a national search for a Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).  SIUE is a premier metropolitan university located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River just 22 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.   

Anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential values to the present and future success of SIUE. SIUE is seeking a visionary, motivational, and collaborative individual to help the institution address a new set of expectations concerning these values.  

Our mission calls for the university to Shape a Changing World and the Vice Chancellor for EDI is a position fundamental to SIUE living that mission.  The Vice Chancellor for EDI will lead the university’s efforts to foster an equitable environment for our students, staff, and faculty as well as alumni and community members. The position reports directly to the Chancellor. The VCEDI serves on Chancellor’s Council as well as Extended Chancellor’s Council, and works collaboratively and regularly with the other Vice Chancellors, including the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Vice Chancellor for Administration, the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.   This is a new position at SIUE and the successful candidate will have wide latitude in shaping the office and its impact in the future.   

The Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will have the following direct responsibilities:
-Lead the Office of Diversity and Inclusion while mentoring its staff and monitoring its budget;
-Supervise and administer the offices of EOA/Title IX, Veterans Services, and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion;
-Work with Equity Advisors for staff searches and the Impact Academy for staff positions;
-Through the Diversity Council, continue to advance the recently developed Diversity Strategic Plan and be responsible for SIUE’s diversity goals and systems of accountability for reaching those goals;
-Lead ongoing Anti-Racism Task Force efforts, including developing training and professional development opportunities, and implementing the recommendations from that group in coordination with the ongoing Higher Learning Commission Quality Initiative (QI), which is coordinated by the Office of the Provost and the University Quality Council;
-Coordinate the Institutional Diversity Leadership Team;
-Chair the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) and continue to develop processes for that group to be effective;
-Participate in certain functions of the EOA/Title IX appeals processes in consultation with the EOA Director;
-Provide guidance in the Strategic Hiring Initiative as it pertains to SIUE Staff;
-Assume responsibilities for anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion programming, including growth of campus constituency groups (e.g. Hispanic/Latinx, LGBTQIA+, etc.).    

 The VCEDI will coordinate with other SIUE administrators by coordinating and connecting existing and new initiatives to the University Diversity Strategic Plan. These include but are not limited to:
-Provost (e.g., Diversity training procedures, Strategic Hiring Initiative for Faculty, QI Initiative including retention and student success, programming from the ADVANCE grant and other initiatives that support inclusive excellence and anti-racism, mentoring);
-Directors of SOAR (Student Opportunities for Academic Results), ACCESS (Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support), Office of International Affairs (e.g., initiatives providing support, services and programs to students);
-VC for Student Affairs (e.g., Student affinity group activities, Diversity training);
-Black Faculty and Staff Association (e.g., annual State of the Black Union Program);
-VC for Advancement (e.g., fundraising efforts to support student scholarships and Advancement/Alumni Relations);
-Deans (e.g., Dream Collective);
-Enrollment Management (e.g., Scholarship strategies for equity and diversity);
-Director of the E. St. Louis Campus (e.g., community-based, grant-funded programs);
-Center for Spirituality and Sustainability (e.g., support for students of different religions and backgrounds);
-SIU System (e.g., Diversity Advisory Council, Vice President for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion);
-Human Resources (e.g., Diversity training);
-Athletics (e.g., mentoring initiatives);
-VC for Administration (e.g., Business Enterprise Program).

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

-Terminal degree from an accredited institution.
-Five (5) years or more of extensive experience, history and supporting data that clearly evidences success in engaging, recruiting, and retaining diverse identity groups.
-Ability to collect and analyze data.
-Knowledge of best practices, scholarly work and existing research regarding diversity—particularly in higher education settings.
-Demonstrated, data driven evidence of innovation and supporting significant improvement in institutional outcomes, policies and climate.
-Ability to serve as a catalyst in mobilizing unit leaders around diversity goals; Success in building effective partnerships.
-Experience and success in strategic planning (including evidence-based accountability outcomes, etc.).
-An outstanding command of the elements and dynamics of changing an organizational culture, and the commitment to see the change through to completion.
-Ability to motivate teams across disciplines and to work collaboratively with all Vice Chancellor areas.
-A strong work ethic and emotional intelligence, including the ability to influence at all levels of the institution.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include written, oral, listening, and presentation, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. 

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in developing and leading specific academic or student engagement/support programs relating to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and experience in improving recruiting and retention outcomes.
-Development or support for faculty, staff, and student training and professional development.
-A track record in facilitating inclusive dialogues that enable positive growth and transformational change in a complex organization.
-Demonstrated ability to apply and contribute to national best practices.
-Demonstrated experience advocating for, and leading change efforts related to, institutional practice and policy as a member of a leadership team.
