Responsibilities

The Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this mission, the Tift College is seeking an Assistant Professor of Teacher Leadership with experience and credentials in P-12 teacher leadership (school or district level) to teach, engage in scholarship, and provide professional and university service in support of the College's EdS in Teacher Leadership degree program and the Coaching endorsement program. Reporting to the Chair of the Atlanta Teacher Education and Educational Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed on the University's Atlanta Campus. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person and online courses in the College's graduate level Teacher Leadership degree program and the Coaching endorsement program, advising students enrolled in this graduate program, and providing service at the program and unit level. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research. It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in activities of programmatic development and professional development linked to instructional quality and student success as well as service to the professional and University communities. Additionally, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the teacher leadership program and the College.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in teacher leadership or related area from an accredited college or university
  • Evidence of at least 3 years of successful P-12 teaching experience
  • Expertise in leading effective change and continuous improvement
  • Knowledgeable of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Strong potential for scholarly productivity in teacher leadership or a related area
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity

Preferred:

  • Facility in the use of technology to develop and deliver online synchronous and asynchronous instruction
  • Experience in P-12 (public and/or independent) teacher leadership
  • Successful experience teaching graduate level courses in higher education or adult learners
  • Potential to obtain federal, state and/or private grants and contracts and manage funded projects
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity in teacher leadership or a related area

The successful candidate must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.
