Summary

Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Immunology, Allergy and Retrovirology (IAR) Service at Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized individual to join the IAR Service's Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Immunology Program. The BMT Immunology Program is one of the largest in the country with about 150 stem cell transplants performed every year. About 80 allogeneic stem cell transplants are performed every year with about 50% of them being non-malignant. We are worldwide known for our experience transplanting immune deficiencies among the non-malignant group. This is an opportunity for a clinical allergy/immunology physician to take part in the BMT Immunology Program in collaboration with BMT physicians from the Hematology-Oncology Section and to develop specific expertise in the field of transplantation for immunologic disorders.

This selected candidate will fill a critical need for the BMT Immunology Program. The Instructor will provide medical care focused on the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients with clinical manifestations of primary and secondary immunodeficiency disease who need curative therapy. Immunodeficiencies, immune dysregulation disorders, and autoimmune disorders will be seen by this instructor. The instructor will collaborate with the Hematology-Oncology Bone Marrow Transplantation team to identify patients appropriate for bone marrow and provide follow-up medical care for this cohort of patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting.

Job Duties
  • Provide medical care for patients in the BMT/Immunology Outpatient Clinic
  • Provide care for patients in at least one allergy/immunology outpatient clinic weekly
  • Participate in inpatient rounds with the inpatient BMT team twice at least twice weekly.
  • Integrate bone marrow transplantation immunology expertise into inpatient hospital care through a consultation service.
  • Lead Bone Marrow Transplantation Immunology Program Group Meetings.
  • Participate in pre-transplant evaluations on all non-malignant patients and attend Bone Marrow Transplantation Review Board Meetings.
  • Develop protocols for the evaluation and management of hypogammaglobulinemia and vaccination in post-BMT patients
  • Provide immunology education to the allergy/immunology and BMT services.
  • Perform clinical and translational research to advance the identification, care and management of patients with immunodeficiency, immunodysregulation, and autoimmunity.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required:Medical Degree.
  • Experience Required: None required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician by the State of Texas Physician Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

  • Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
