General Summary/Purpose:

The research program assistant will support data collection and analysis for research studies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administrative
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Assist project director as necessary regarding typing, filing, faxing, mass mailings, chart review, and literature searches.
  • Prepare biweekly work progress reports.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Research
  • Data entry regarding participant information.
  • Review medical records for data collection
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of data.
  • Cross-train to other project tasks and support as necessary.
  • Coordinate scheduling for research study participants.
  • Assist project director in participant consent procedures as necessary.
  • Academic Participate in preparation of abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Training in epidemiology and biostatistics

    Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

    • High School Diploma/GED required.
    • Some related experience required.
    • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.

    Preferred Qualifications:

      Bachelor’s Degree and/or some college courses preferred. Health related studies or behavioral sciences preferred. Experience in a research setting helpful. Experience with computers desired. Experience with interviewing and physical measurements such as blood pressure desired.

    Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills necessary.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Flexibility in work schedule is required.
    • Knowledge of software such as Access and Excel is helpful.
    • Must be willing to learn to use various software programs such as Access, Excel, and possibly Stata for participant scheduling, tracking, data entry, and analysis.

    ***JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.     During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception.     The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
